Project Overview
The goal of this project was to design an app to empower millennial women to understand their personalities and improve on their strengths and weaknesses.
My Contributions
My role was to assist in the brand workshop for Impower, which resulted in defining the visual style of the UI. I also assisted in building the wireframes. I created several theme options for the UI, and later implemented the chosen theme on the entire UI Design.
User Personas
I helped identify and establish user personas that reflected the insights the client had already collected from its target audience, and the insights we were able to collect through a small focus group.
Types of Questions asked
- Are there many areas of your life you want to make improvement in?
- Do you have a hard time managing and understanding how you feel?
- How often do you use technology, especially on your mobile device?
- How likely are you to use a self-help app?
- Do you find self-help apps useful or not useful?
- What are some things you might struggle with using self help apps?
- What are some things you might succeed in using self help apps?
- Do you feel like you learn using technology?
- How likely are you do journal?
- Do you find journaling helpful?
Findings: Most millennial women use technology and are at a point where they are trying to better themselves without much direction. They struggle with what to learn and improve on, keeping themselves accountable, and knowing if they are making improvements. Most women do not journal at all or as much as they would like to but they have heard of the benefits and would like to be consistent.

Wireframing
The client had provided wireframes that needed validating and improvement. However, they had gaps in their respective flow, so I explored the experience in more detail and ensured that the main focus remains on the personality quiz module that sits at the heart of the app.

Brand Discovery Workshop and UI Design Exploration
(Phase 0)
Taking a sprint-like approach, my team was able to conduct a brand workshop concurrently as the wireframe was being built to help the client further understand their brand and core vision is; the workshop resulted in Impower identifying its communication priority through the UI.
We created two themed mock-ups using a few key screens from the approved wireframes. This helped communicate the different directions we can take for the client to choose their desired direction. The client opted for the approach that highlighted the UI through custom illustrations with a strong emphasis on brand colors throughout.

Final UI
After the theme was chosen, we proceeded to design the app’s UI to maintain it consistent aesthetic. This required a good balance between maximizing functionality and maintaining simplicity, and after several iterations and client meetings, we were able to finalize the UI to its full potential.
